Why is the record of a team so irrelevant in college football?

The season isn't over yet and I still think there is going to be a shake up before it's done. I believe Oregon is going to lose tomorrow night. I think Kansas will lose in the Big12 Championship. LSU might slip up against Arkansas or in the SEC championship. I don't think it's a done deal for any of these teams.
