HELP with ROTC or National Guard!!!!?

I am suppose to leave late september for basic training. I am currently in the Florida army national guard. A school in new york has since talked to me about contracting with their ROTC program before I ship to Basic and that contract will allow me not to go to basic. I am not trying to get out of gong to basic and AIT I just think the ROTC program is better for me in the long run. My question is...is it possible for me to contract with ROTC before i ship out for basic and not have to go to basic even though the school I am attending is out of state? The ROTC director said he can get me in and my RSP drill sgt said I should wait til after basic and AIT. Thats 2 1/2 semesters of school I would be missing doing that route. I am thinking he is just saying that so it looks better for him if i ship out to basic... Any thoughts? And if i do the ROTC without going to basic can i still do the SMP program?
