What improvements should i make to this one paragraph of my essay? ?
Much like Romeo, Juliet had certain recurring characteristics that lead to her demise. Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time, and are only together for a minute. Later, Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague. In anguish she cried, “My only love, sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me that I must love a loathed enemy.” (1.3, 154-157) First of all, her statement was a major logical fallacy. She used false dichotomy to convince herself that the only two options were to marry Romeo or die. Juliet was only thirteen, and should have realized that she did not yet know what love was. If she had taken a step back and looked at the situation, she would have discovered that her mere crush should have been stopped, before it went out of control. There were many instances like this in the novel where Juliet went to far, and would have made a better decision had she been more mature. Like Romeo, she would make hasty decisions, drastic choices that someone her age should never make. One of her decisions was to kill herself. After she sees Romeo dead, she picks up his dagger and sobs, “Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O happy dagger! This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die.” (5.3, 182-183) Killing herself was definitely the most eminent display of her thoughtlessness. She should have realized that she was still young, and that it wasn’t a good idea to take drastic measures. She also made decisions similar to this one earlier in the play. Shortly after hearing of Romeo’s banishment, she ran to Friar Lawrence and asked for a solution. The Friar, wanting the best for her, told her to drink a potion that would make her appear dead for two days. Afterwards, Romeo would come and rescue her. She replied saying, “I will do it without fear or doubt, to live an unstained wife to my sweet love… give me, give me!” (4.1, 96-97 and 131) Juliet was very foolish to accept the Friar’s offer. Juliet was still 13and needed to abide by her parents wishes. She was not yet to an age where she could decide whether or not she should avoid marring Paris.
