Reprogramming computer for better performance?

Generally, ECM programming is only necessary when other components have been modified/upgraded. If you reprogram your ECM with an otherwise stock vehicle you won't see much of an improvement, if any. If it's a vehicle you're depending on for a daily driver, I wouldn't recommend doing any reprogramming.
